March 2, 2020 James LaMattery COASTAL PETITION Coastal Height Limit Protection PetitionRead or edit the petition Dear Councilmembers Campbell and Cate, SB 330, as originally written, had the mechanism to allow the City Council to suspend the 30ft Coastal Height Limit. Our neighbors and residents campaigned against the offensive text in SB 330 and as a result, the bill was amended on May 7, 2019 to protect the voter approved limit. The amended text reads as follows: (2) This section shall not be construed to void a height limit, urban growth boundary, or urban limit established by the electorate of an affected county or an affected city on or before January 1, 2018. The State relinquished their attempt to allow our voter approved height limit to be overturned, modified, or suspended for ANY reason. I'm a resident of San Diego County and I oppose any attempt to remove the voter approved 30FT height limit in the city or county of San Diego. I consider it to be disastorous precedent, particularily in the areas you've proposed. As badly as we need housing in San Diego, lifting the height limit is NOT the answer, especially in Sports Arena, Midway and Pacific Highway corridors as it will only incentivize the construction of high-rise luxury towers that will benefit only developers as these areas can command ocean and bay views. San Diegans need housing we can afford, not another developer-driven above market rate project. Sincerely, **your signature** BCC yourself Sign Now Share this with your friends:
